Exmouth June 2009

Post by Steve Ward » Fri Jul 17, 2009 3:14 pm

This year we decided have a go at fishing exmouth in june, instead of april-may and august when we usualy venture up there
It was straight off the plane from Dubai, esperance, 4 hours later murray and i had the car packed and it was off for a 22 hour straight drive.
We got there early in the morning , set up camp and had the boat in the water at tandibiddi by 12,30, it was straight outt he front to make sure everything was working okay, 10 minutes later we hooked a marlin, but it got off, then 1/2 a hour later we got another small black and landed that one. that put us in the mood to go drink beer , so was s traight back to the light house.
Over the 2 -1/2 weeks we got out every day except one when it was raining and blowing its butt off.
This year we concentrated on chasing reds as the trolling was a bit slow out wide and managed to get a few , breaking a bit of gear ont he sharks and going through a mounten of lead and bottom rigs. some of the best fishing was on small trevely with 4-6 lb gear. the inside trolling was good for the mac's but the sharks were in plague proportions and you had to be quick to land them
We discovered heaps of new country , so all in all a good trip. looking at Russ's pic's it was a way better option than been in esperance.
Now have to wait again to next winter to get back up there

Were you chasing bones or was that a bycatch?
