Hows about a 46ft Cat?

Post by Islander » Sat Mar 27, 2010 9:25 am

Heres a 46ft cat!

Image

It is a Pro Boat 46, the same boat that used to be sold in the U.S. (without the foils) as the Black Pearl 46. The foils help with efficiency and allow lower power, lighter ( 1,300 lb lighter, in total ) engines to be used.

These are the foils arrangement.

Image

Image

Front foil is fixed while the rear is adjustable (but not on the fly).

By raising or lowering the rear foil you alter the attack angle of the front foil wing.

This can help to avoid one negative aspect of hysucat foils - stuffing the bow in a following sea.

Just have to ensure you don;t alter the wing attack angle above stall.

Schweet huh?

Did I mention - I love boat porn?

Cheers!

So....what have all these mega dollar boats got in common i hear you asking?

Well they have ALL been stolen from south Florida and used to smuggle illegal refugees from Cuba to Mexico!

Yes illegal immigrants in the USA steal these big go fasts and run them to Cuba where they collect 20 - 30 illegals at $10grand a head - and run them to cancun Mexico, where they drop them off.

The boats are either abandoned there - and the thieves go back to the US across the now wide open Mexican border and steal another one and do the same thing.

$300K profit per trip!

And the Mexican police?.... they impound the boats for being used in illegal's smuggling.

They do NOT :-

1. Tell any US authorities - what boats they have impounded

2. Contact the manufacturer with Hin numbers to track the rightful owner.

3. Contact US Insurers to come collect the stolen boats they have paid out insurance on, and now own!

Nope - they sit there and rot - on average $200K per boat!

And - the Insurers soak it up and pay out!

Boat builders make replacement boats - You the boat owner pay for this with your high boat insurance premiums.

Everyone's a winner as the saying goes!

You know - if you went into Mexico and took cold hard folding cash - - the corrupt chief of police in Cancun, would probably let you fuel up and sail off in just about any of those boats for a few thousand peso's!

I'm trying to figure a scam like this where i can smuggle indos into Aus in a go fast and make $300K a trip!

All jokes aside - its sad to see so many lovely boats just rotting there.

Maybe an astute Aussie buyer could negotiate a deal with the cancun popo to have em all shipped as deck cargo on a freighter to oz for sale to us desperate fisho's at bargain basement prices!!!

Anythings gotta be better than then rotting away where they are!

Cheers

Some awesome rigs there. Seems a few of the locals have borrowed a couple of gearboxes for spares too.

I like the Fountains or Contenders myself....... or Robalo, or Cape Horn, or Edgewater, or Triton, or even some of the Centurys for more of a family rig..... damn those Yanks make some nicely finished off rigs. Nothing like that available off the shelf over here.

Forget Contender Wookie

Post by Islander » Sun Mar 28, 2010 2:24 pm

Forget the Contenders Wookie - you don;t need that kinda trouble!

Image

These two links would explain why but there's a LOT of info you'd need to digest to understand the whole issue.

http://contenderboatsbreachwarranty.com ... _IMIM.html

Luckily other manufacturers are stepping up to fill the hole that contenders likely to leave if it sinks for good as it seems it may well do.

Been following those threads. Seems the problems are only really the latest models. Plenty of the older ones still around.

Thats true

Post by Islander » Mon Mar 29, 2010 6:42 am

Thats true Wookie and with any luck they will come down in price some maybe as a result of the warranty problems.

Pity we can't get a 25 contender hull here in Oz and splash a mold off it (like the ol forumla 23 hulls getting round WA masquerading as 25 center consoles).

Both good hulls when you think about it - would be bloody awesome for fishing off the north west coast!

Open a big air con shed in Karratha Light Industrial or Port Hedland, smuggle in a few savvy illegals Indo refugees to lay up the glass work.
Name the boats "Nor Westers" and trick em out fully sick for the mine workers to buy and fish the game comps in the north at Exmouth, Dampier PH etc.

Sound like a plan Wookie?

I'll drive the go fast with the illegal indos and play hide n seek with the patrol boats and coastwatch plane - you get the contender & Fountain, Invincible hulls and shed, and were set to go into bidness! 8)

That or we fly into Mehico (Send our US "agent" Bob, with a fist full a cash) and buy all those bad boys in the pics above, ship em straight to Pt Hedland and just set to fixin em up for sale to the miners!

Sound like a plan guys?

Cheers.

Im still doing the sums bringing one in. Pricing is looking pretty good with the strong dollar.

Not sure who is building the 233's here at the moment. Im pretty sure the mould is sitting in a yard in Henderson. Great hull (and Im a massive Haines fan) but just not quite there with the variable deadrise hulls and storage options of the imports.

Might just be sticking with the 17r for a bit longer I think.

Pretty sure it is Peter Milner Yachts that has the WA mould with centre console plug.
